How to Sell Zambia: Luangwa Valley

About the Luangwa Valley

The Luangwa Valley is Zambia’s flagship safari destination. It comprises of South Luangwa National Park, North Luangwa National Park and Luambe National Park. The parks in Luangwa are home to the walking safari and boast a large number of accommodation options and activities.

South Luangwa National Park

The South Luangwa National park covers 9,050 km² and is the most popular and most visited park out of the three in the Luangwa Valley. The South Luangwa National Park is the perfect for three types of clients:

  • First time safari goers or first time visitors to the Luangwa: the best places to stay are near the Mfuwe main gate area because there is exceptional game viewing and a wide range of budget options.
  • Repeat visitors to Luangwa or experienced safari goers: the best places to stay are in more remote camps in the park with emphasis on an exclusive safari experience.
  • Safari enthusiasts and first time visitors to Luangwa: the best options for this type of client would be to stay at a combination of remote safari camps as well as more established safari camps.

There is something for everyone to do in the South Luangwa National Park and because of this, we would recommend visiting at least two camps during your stay. This will give your clients different safari experiences and allow them to see more of the park.

North Luangwa National Park

The North Luangwa National park covers 254 km² and is ideal for hardcore safari enthusiasts. This park has incredible wildlife and it is a lot more remote than South Luangwa National Park. North Luangwa National Park provides an authentic experience and would be recommended for clients that are repeat visitors to Luangwa or clients that want to extend their trip after visiting South Luangwa National Park.

Luambe National Park

The Luambe National park is a small park and covers only 294 km². It’s an easily accessible park and only has two camps in it. This provides the opportunity for clients to have the entire park to themselves; running into other game vehicles is a scarce occurrence. Similar to North Luangwa National Park, Luambe National Park would be recommended for clients that are repeat visitors to Luangwa or clients that want to extend their trip after visiting South Luangwa National Park.

When is the best time of year to visit the national parks in the Luangwa Valley?

North Luangwa National Park, South Luangwa National Park and Luambe National Park all fall into the normal safari season in Zambia and therefore the best time to visit in terms of the weather as well as seeing the most game would be between July and October.
