About Northern Zambia
Northern Zambia is one of the less visited areas of Zambia, similar to Western Zambia; tourists seem to only know about the bigger national parks and tourist attractions in the country. However, Northern Zambia is one of the most exquisite areas of Zambia and boasts some beautiful landmarks including Kapishya Hot Springs, Shiwa Ngangu, Lake Tanganyika, the Bangweulu Wetlands, Kasanka National Park as well as many waterfalls. This area is an untapped treasure in Zambia and you don’t want your clients to miss this opportunity!
Something to be aware of about Northern Zambia:
Accessibility into Northern Zambia is the biggest issue for potential clients wanting to visit this magnificent area of the country. Clients can either self-drive to the Northern Zambia area or they can take private charters.
The main two areas to visit in Northern Zambia:
- The Bangweulu Wetlands
- The Kasanka National Park
The Bangweulu Wetlands
- The Bangweulu Wetlands are known for Shoebill Island Camp (in terms of accommodation) and Shoebills and Black Lechwe (in terms of game).
- The best time to visit this area is between May and August, where your clients are more likely to visit the abovementioned game that the Bangweulu Wetlands are known for.
- We would suggest staying in the Bangweulu Wetlands for about two nights before moving onto other areas of Northern Zambia.
- Our recommended travel options for your clients to get to the Bangweulu Wetlands would be either to use a private charter from Lusaka or to combine the trip with South Luangwa using Remote African Safaris air charter options.
Kasanka National Park:
- Kasanka National Park is best known for the bat migration, which is the largest mammal migration in the world.
- In terms of travelling to the Kasanka National Park, there are set scheduled flights from Lusaka or there is the option of combining it with a Luangwa trip.
- The best time to visit Kasanka National Park for the bat migration is between 20th October and 15th December.
When is the best time of year to visit Northern Zambia?
Northern Zambia falls into the normal safari season in Zambia and therefore the best time to visit in terms of the weather as well as seeing the most game would be between July and October. However, as mentioned above, the best time to visit the Bangweulu Wetlands is between May and August and the best time to visit Kasanka National Park to see the bat migration is between October and December.
